Program Facets

Services to Youth
The main objective of the Service to Youth Facet is to help youth of African ancestry discover and reach their full potential. It focuses on their concerns and well-being while implementing programs that are responsive to their academic, cultural, health, social, career development, and mentoring needs. Particular emphasis is placed on bridging the digital divide.

The Links, Incorporated offers programs that address the needs of youth from pre-school to college. We have studied and developed strategies that address the following cultural issues that relate to African American youth: urban and rural poverty, the education gap, low-standard or the absence of housing, declining health, and substance abuse.

The Arts
The Links, Incorporated support of the arts can be traced to our cultured co-founder Margaret Roselle Hawkins. Her innate artistic talent, discovered at a young age, earned her a four-year scholarship to the Women’s School of Design, later known as the Moore Institute of Art. Her passion for creative expression later led to her appointment as an art teacher and helped give root to the establishment of The Arts facet in 1964 at the 14th National Assembly. The goal of The Arts Facet is to produce and support programs to enrich the quality of life of our youth and communities through educational and engaging art experiences while Transforming Communities and Fulfilling Our Purpose.

Health & Human Services

National Trends & Services
The National Trends and Services Facet seeks to address issues of importance on the national front. Among the issues are poverty, health, HBCUs, voter registration, housing, nutrition, and economics. These issues are addressed through collaborative partnerships and initiatives to benefit communities identified as having the greatest need.
The goal of the Health and Human Services Facet is to promote and facilitate programs that support the maintenance of good health. Particular emphasis is placed on bringing awareness to and eliminating chronic health disparities in communities of color. This is accomplished through education, health advocacy, and optimal utilization of health resources. Two major and national components are organ donation awareness and childhood obesity.

This important facet was added at the 2010 National Assembly. The Health and Human Services facet addresses issues relating to health disparities of African Americans in our local community, as well as nationally. Our current theme of “Links Living to be Healthy” demonstrates a commitment to improving the health and wellness of each member of the chapter, as we seek to be good role models for each other, our families, and for our community.

International Trends & Services
The International Trends & Services Facet aims to provide opportunities for tangible service in other countries. Most of the projects are geared toward improving the lives of women, children, and men worldwide through long-term programs committed to education, personal empowerment, and leadership for social change. Many initiatives are extended toward residents of African nations.

The programs of the International Trends and Services facet are designed to demonstrate that The Links Care about improving the living conditions and health of people of African ancestry, globally. Our projects include observances, helping-hands activities, mentoring, and educational approaches.
